Amotor festival of rare custom, vintage and super cars — some of which have never been driven on UAE roads — kicked off yesterday night in Dubai.

The 10-day City Overdrive was launched by UAE racing stars Mohammad Al Mutawaa, Ahmad Al Ameri and female Emirati rally driver Rabab Al Tajir.

Motorheads took photographs with cars and sport celebs as the festival began at City Walk by Meraas at Mo’s Restaurant.

Highlights of the festival, which runs till April 25, include the Ford Tudor Hot Rod (1932) and A.K.A. Torquey (1957). In addition, limited-edition super cars such as the Corvette Stingray (2015) — one of only three such cars in the world — will also take centre stage. There will also be motorbikes, including the Trike.

Exclusive access

The event will provide car fans with exclusive access to the “best automotive technicians and builders in the region”.

City Walk will host an interactive “race room” activation that will allow them to feel like track competitors in their own race.

Ahmad Al Ameri, the UAE Drift Champion from 2011-2015, said it was a unique opportunity for visitors to mingle and learn about motorsports, how to build a car — and safe driving. “We are raising awareness about driving safely. We [race champs] always drive in a controlled environment,” he added.

Zlatko Mulabegovic, Editor in Chief, Top Performance Magazine,

which is collaborating with City Walk for the festival, added: “The main attraction for the event is the selection of cars and bikes on display for 10 days, with a variety of vehicles. The concept of the show comes from cars that are not standard, but are special in their own way.”
