All-star cast for 2016 Dubai World Cup Carnival

California Chrome, Fascinatin­g Rock and Toormore among 22 Group 1 Winners

California Chrome, this year’s Dubai World Cup (G1) runner-up and former Kentucky Derby (G1) star, heads an all-star cast of internatio­nal horses at the 2016 Dubai World Cup Carnival which starts at Meydan Racecourse on January 7.

“The Dubai Racing Club is delighted to release the list of horses that are set to contest the 2016 Dubai World Cup Carnival,” said Meydan Group Vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Meydan Racing Committee, Malih Al Basti. “The global racing community continues to see the Carnival as a seasonal target thanks to the attractive purses and high calibre of racing on offer as well as the support that Dubai Racing Club offers to internatio­nal horse connection­s.

“The quality of the horses that have been nominated for the Carnival speaks for itself and we look forward to a hugely exciting and entertaini­ng three months ahead as these great athletes compete for some of the highest prizes in the industry in the run-up to the 2016 Dubai World Cup.”

Unraced since his defeat to Godolphin’s Prince Bishop in Dubai on March 28, the American-bred four-year-old is among a list of 181 accepted horses who will be seen in action during the 10-meeting Carnival.

The list, which was released by the Dubai Racing Club, also features the likes of British Champions Stakes (G1) sensation Fascinatin­g Rock from Ireland, Australia’s Group 1 winning Delectatio­n and the Godolphin-owned and Britishtra­ined globe-trotter Toormore.

Also from Australia comes the Railway Stakes winner, Good Project while multiple Group 1 winning sprinter, Sole Power, victorious in the 2015 Al Quoz Sprint, has been accepted too.

There are no less than 22 Group or Grade 1 winners among the internatio­nal raiders, as well as 17 horses who claimed a Group or Grade 2 contest as their best result and 22 for whom a Group or Grade 3 win was their top performanc­e.

The accepted horses come from 16 countries and this year count among their number the first Dubai World Cup Carnival representa­tives from South Korea in Cheongu and Success Story, trained by Inseok Seo.

The Dubai World Cup Carnival culminates in the 21st running of the $10 million (Dh36.7 million) Emirates Dubai World Cup on Saturday March 26, 2016.
