Hollywood actress Kristen Stewart is filming a horror movie in Oman.

It should be familiar territory for the star, who rose to fame playing a girl in love with a vampire in Twilight.

She arrived in the country on December 10 with the crew of her latest film, Personal Shopper, tabloid! has learnt.

Personal Shopper, directed by French filmmaker Olivier Assayas (top), is a ghost story set in the fashion underworld; it is slated for release in 2016.

Stewart will shooting the ghost movie in Muscat, Bahla and Nizwa provinces in northern Oman, including at Bahla Historical Fort.

The movie will also be shot in Prague, Paris and London.

Stewart, 25, became a star playing the protagonist Bella Swan in the vampiric Twilight Saga film series from 2008–12, which has grossed over $3.3 billion (Dh12.11 billion) worldwide.

So why Oman? Apparently, it’s terrifying, National Geographic last April included Bahla province in a report on the world’s most terrifying places.

Bahla, a desert oasis, ranked in fifth place because it’s palm groves and abandoned stone houses are reportedly home to jinn, or spirits.

Legends say that spirits inhabited the city and built the famous 12km wall of Bahla overnight, although the report neglected to mention the distinctive historical and cultural value of Bahla province.

Beyond Twilight, Stewart has chosen a wide range of films, from awardwinning tearjerker Still Alice, indie favourites Into the Wild (2007), Adventureland (2009) and The Runaways (2010); and blockbusters (2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman). She is the first American actress to win France’s answer to the Oscar, the Cesar Award, for Best Supporting Actress in Clouds of Sils Maria.
