Brett joins anti-piracy brigade

- By Manjusha Radhakrishnan, Senior Reporter

As Bollywood buckles this summer under the threat of films being leaked online, Australian bowler Brett Lee, who plays the lead role in the cross-cultural romance UnIndian, preempted that menace and lent his weight to an antipiracy campaign last year.

“We don’t want leaks. The only leaks I have found are the leaks in my farmhouse. In this campaign, I thank everyone for not stealing films. The campaign makes you aware that hundreds of workers worked on that film and to please respect them,” said Brett Lee in an interview with tabloid! in Dubai yesterday.

Lee is part of a 30-second video, led by UnIndian director and antipiracy advocate Anupam Sharma, to make people aware of the work that goes into making a film and hails all those who access content through legitimate sources . The anti-piracy clip, shot on the set of UnIndian, puts a face to its crew. So far, the romantic comedy, which released in Sydney last year, hasn’t been leaked online.

UnIndian will see Lee make his acting debut in a lead role.

“Playing cricket feels comfortable. But in acting you are putting yourself out there,” said Lee.

He plays a teacher in Australia who falls in love with a “sundar ladki ”(a beautiful Indian woman), played by Tannishtha Chatterjee.

“This film shows that there are no boundaries in love. You will laugh a lot and cry a bit,” he said.

The cross-cultural romance will release in the UAE on August 18. Read the full interview in tabloid! soon.
