Government seeks report on capital’s crime rate

-

With an uptick in crime rates in the federal capital, the interior ministry has sought a report from the Islamabad Police Inspector General.

The federal capital police have failed to apprehend wanted suspects, proclaimed offenders, murderers and robbers despite release of Rs6 million by the interior ministry to round up the fugitives.

Police sources told Online that despite the orders of the interior minister to make immediate arrests of the wanted criminals, the Islamabad police could only arrested 1,919 suspects out of 5,188 wanted men during the last four months.

In the last four months, the Islamabad police arrested 139 murder suspects out of 523; 106 kidnapping suspects out of 142 and 149 robberies out of wanted 380 fugitives. Similarly, the police could arrest 118 proclaimed offenders out of 297 and 62 car-jackers of 161 wanted car thieves.

The poor performance of the police in arresting mostwanted criminals has not only raised a question mark but also created a sense of insecurity among the masses. Security has been beefed up at public places in Islamabad in the wake of a suicide attack threat.
