Apple to host ‘special event’ on September 7

Speculation is rife that the California-based firm may unveil the long-awaited ‘iPhone 7’

-

Apple yesterday sent out invitations to a “special event” on September 7 in San Francisco, where it is expected to unveil a new iPhone model.

In the company’s usual enigmatic style, it provided little more than the date, time and place to the invitation-only gathering set for the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium near San Francisco City Hall.

Apple has maintained a rhythm of introducing updated iPhone models on an annual basis, timing introductions to coincide with the year-end holiday shopping season.

Rumours include talk of an ‘iPhone 7’ that will boast improvements to software, cameras and processing speed along with doing away with jacks for plugging headphones.

California-based Apple could also use the event to showcase updates to other products, such as its smartwatch and laptop computers.

The invitation showed outof-focus multicoloured lights against a black background.

Revenue decline

Apple is facing a revenue decline this year as customers upgrade their smartphones less regularly. The iPhone generates about two-thirds of Apple’s sales, making a product refresh essential to help revive growth in the run-up to Christmas.

The spots of light on the invitation form the top portion of the Apple logo, with the message “See you on the 7th” below. The event will take place at 10am Pacific Time.

The Cupertino, Californiabased company often hints about new products in its invitations.
