Accident kills Al Ain family in Saudi Arabia

AJordanian family of five living in Al Ain was killed in a horrific road accident early Sunday, police said yesterday.

According to relatives, the family left Jordan on Saturday on their way to the UAE through Saudi Arabia and the accident happened on Sunday at 5.30am.

The family comprised Saeed Batran, 45, his 39-year-old wife, Linda Batran, who worked as an English language teacher in Tawaam Modern School, and their three children — Aktham, Saif and Gaith, who studied in grades 11, 9 and 3 respective­ly. The three children were studying in the same school where the mother taught.

The accident took place in Hafar Al Batin area in Saudi Arabia when the family was returning to the UAE from Jordan travelling in their four-wheeldrive vehicle after spending the summer vacation in Jordan.

The accident happened as their vehicle veered off the road and overturned. The entire family was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident.

Saudi Arabia authoritie­s moved to the scene when they received informatio­n of the accident.

The bodies of the deceased were transferre­d to hospital before being handed over for burial.

Meanwhile, teachers and students of Tawaam Modern School reacted with shock and expressed their deep sense of loss.

The school started their new academic year with the tragic news.

The deceased teacher had worked in the school for the past 13 years and was described as a “lovely person”.

Two other accidents

Meanwhile, in Dubai, six people were injured in two separate accidents on Saturday and Sunday.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai Traffic Police, said on Saturday a person was seriously injured and four sustained moderate injuries on Hessa bridge after their bus overturned after hitting a truck.

The incident was a result of sudden swerving.

On Sunday, a pickup driver was seriously injured when his pickup and a minibus collided on the hard shoulder on Emirates Road near Al Ain Bridge.

The incident, he said, took place at around 2pm in the Abu Dhabi direction.
