What does it mean?

-

In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg launched “The facebook”, as it was originally known. In 24 hours, 1,200 students at the US-based Harvard University had signed up. A month later, over half of the students had a profile. It soon became a place for students and friends to gather.

Today, 12 years later and with 1.71 billion monthly active users, four in ten people polled on gulfnews.com are using Facebook for its original purpose — to catch up with friends. Many users are watching funny videos or reading the news, but it remains a communication tool.
