Sheringham, Steven and Tindall in Dubai for Charity Golf Day

Stars to honour life of local golfer Mike Clark while raising funds for cancer research

Former England footballers Teddy Sheringham and Trevor Steven along with former England rugby captain Mike Tindall will be in Dubai for the Sixteen10 Mike Clark Charity Golf Day at the Address Montgomerie on November 3.

Mike Clark was a local golfer who died of bowel cancer on October 16 2012. His friend Reza Sazegar set up a company called Sixteen10 — named after the date that Mike passed away — to help raise funds for UAEbased charity Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP).

Sixteen10 organises events and fundraising auctions for ‘money can’t buy experiences’ and sporting memorabilia with proceeds going to the charity.

“FOCP does a fantastic job and has helped over 1,300 cancer patients and their families since their inception in 1999,” Sazegar told Gulf News.

“Supporting such a worthy cause was an easy choice and ensures that Mike’s memory and story grows stronger and his legacy raises valuable awareness to help others avoid the same outcome, while contributing to the effort to eradicate cancer from our society.”

The golf day will be followed by a gala dinner and a question and answer session with Sheringham, Steven and Tindall, conducted by TV presenter and football pundit Rob McCaffrey. Guests can join the whole day or just attend for the evening’s entertainment.

Sheringham, for Tottenham who played Hotspur and Manchester United, famously scored United’s winning goal in the 1999 Uefa Champions League final against Bayern Munich, and was capped 51 times for England between 1993 and 2002.

Steven played for Everton and Glasgow Rangers and made 36 England appearances between 1985 and 1992, while Tindall, who is married to the Queen’s granddaughter Zara Phillips, was a Bath and Gloucester stalwart who represented England 75 times between 2000 and 2011.
