Grandma cries fowl play
Sues KFC for $20m for under-stuffed bucket
Agrandmother is suing KFC for $20 million (Dh73.25 million) because she didn’t get enough chicken
A lot of small businesses advertise but it’s worth taking care how you tout your wares. Take the case of KFC’s allegedly understuffed bucket.
A New York woman says she spent $20 for a bucket of chicken last summer and was disappointed when the meal fell short of what was advertised, the New York Post reports.
“I came home and said, ‘Where’s the chicken?’” Anna Wurtzburger told The Washington Post . “I thought I was going to have a couple of meals.”
She claimed the fastfood giant’s advertising shows a “bucket that’s overflowing with chicken”, according to the Post. She’s claiming false advertising.
Wurtzburger complained to the company but said she was told that the reason why the bucket was overflowing with chicken in the ads was to give the opportunity for the public to see the product. She thinks it’s foul (fowl?) play. And so she hired a lawyer, demanding the company change its advertising.
The company did send the 64-year-old grandmother two gift certificates as an apology. She returned them, instead asking for $20 million in damages. Why so much?
“It’s the principal of the matter,” Wurtzburger told CBS Local.
“Sometimes you gotta hit people where they feel it.”
The company says the lawsuit is “meritless”. The Colonel couldn’t be reached for comment.
