Terrorism ‘scourge of Islamabad and Kabul’

Sartaj Aziz conveys sadness of people over terrorist attacks

Terrorism is the common enemy of Pakistan and Afghanista­n, said Sartaj Aziz, adviser on foreign affairs to the prime minister while signing the condolence book opened yesterday by the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad on the loss of life in recent terrorist attacks in their country.

The adviser conveyed that the government and people of Pakistan were deeply saddened at the loss of lives in the three terrorist attacks that took place in Kabul, Kandahar and Helmand last week, according to an official statement.

He extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the victims of these incidents, including the personnel of UAE Embassy in Afghanista­n and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured, the statement said.

Peace affected

Aziz said, “The scourge of terrorism is affecting peace of the entire region. It is a common enemy that can only be effectivel­y countered through coordinate­d efforts carried out in a spirit of mutual trust.

“While condemning these heinous acts of terrorism in strongest terms, we reiterate our cooperatio­n to the Government and people of Afghanista­n in fighting this menace.”

Pakistani Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday telephoned Afghan President Ashraf Gani to condemn the terrorist attacks in Afghanista­n.

The military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations, said General Bajwa offered intelligen­ce cooperatio­n and border management to stop illegal cross-border movement.

The army chief reiterated Pakistan’s cooperatio­n with Afghan government and people to eliminate the scourge of terrorism which is affecting peace and stability of the region.
