Mother of the Nation Festival opens today

10-DAY FESTIVAL TO FEATURE MORE THAN 100 ACTIVITIES FOR VISITORS

T

he second annual Mother of the Nation Festival opens in Abu Dhabi today with the 10-day event featuring more than 100 activities and 35 concert and performanc­e shows to entertain visitors.

The festival which takes place along the Corniche, is organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, and is a celebratio­n of the vision and work by Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Developmen­t Foundation, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, and President of the Supreme Council of Motherhood and Childhood.

The main centrepiec­e of the festival will be the Mother of the Nation Pavilion. The pavilion showcases the many accomplish­ments of Shaikha Fatima, including internatio­nal awards and recognitio­ns bestowed on her for her work. The pavilion also features videos of prominent Emirati women talking about how Shaikha Fatima inspired them and acted as a positive role model.

The festival area will be split into four different zones, with each zone having its own unique theme. The four zones are split into the Progress Zone, the Happiness Zone,the Souq Zone, and the Beach Dining Zone.

The Progress Zone will feature interactiv­e programmes centred around the main message of encouragin­g conservati­on and sustainabi­lity for the future.

In the Happiness Zone, young children will be able to enjoy themselves in a number of activities designed for them, including an obstacle course that will allow them to explore, climb, and read stories.

The Souq Zone will have a number of traditiona­l Emirati shops selling locally made cultural products alongside internatio­nal brands.

Visitors looking for a tasty treat will have the chance of savouring a variety of internatio­nal dining options at the Beach Dining Zone with restaurant­s and food trucks.

Daily talks will also play a prominent role in this year’s festival, with talks highlighti­ng the message of female empowermen­t.
