9 Afghans held during checks in Islamabad

Islamabad police have arrested nine Afghan nationals for illegally staying in country — and six Pakistanis for various crimes — a police spokesman has said.

Special checks were conducted in various areas of the city, at the orders of the Senior Superinten­dent of Police (SSP) — Islamabad, during which Khana police arrested a drug peddler from Bilal town and recovered 1.14 kilogramme­s of hashish.

Police in Shehzad town arrested suspects Saddam and Khuram Shehzad for possessing a 30-bore pistol each, while Kohsar police nabbed Sagheer for also possessing a 30-bore pistol.

Koral police arrested Rizwan and Amjad Mahmoud for selling petroleum products illegally.

Meanwhile, Islamabad police arrested nine Afghan nationals from various areas of the city for staying in the country illegally.

They have been identified as Hikmat, Jameel Khan, Akram Khan, Saeed, Dilawar Khan, Bilal, Saleem, Zafar and Abdul Ghaffar. Cases have been registered against the suspects, police said.

Senior Superinten­dent of Police — Islamabad Sajid Kiani hailed this performanc­e and directed all officers to conduct special checks in their respective areas.
