Adelegation led by the founder of India’s Sun Foundation Group has visited the Rashid Centre for the Disabled in Dubai to support the Year of Giving initiative of the UAE.

Vikramjit Singh Sahney, founder of the group, met Mariam Othman, CEO of the centre, and toured the facilities.

The two establishments are cooperating and sharing expertise in rehabilitating and supporting families of the disabled.

During the visit, Sahney inspected the rehabilitation, therapeutic and educational workshops held by the centre for its students, who number 300 students.

He said he admired the level of services and education offered by the centre. Sahney said: “We are very pleased with the cooperation agreement we signed with the Rashid Centre for the Disabled, which I have already considered a great humanitarian model in the UAE. I believe that the Sun Foundation’s cooperation with Rashid Centre for the Disabled will work to transfer expertise and exchange between the two parties the services we provide to people with disabilities, with the aim to rehabilitate and upgrade them, as they form an important part of the social fabric, whether in India or the UAE.”

Othman welcomed Sahney and his delegation to the centre. She said: “Rashid Centre for the Disabled has become a model for giving and human welfare, especially as the centre cares about rehabilitating those who are motivated and seeks to put them on the right path in preparation for their inclusion.”

Strategic pact

She stressed that the agreement between the two establishments is part of supporting the Year of Giving initiative. The agreement reflects the historic role played by the UAE in charitable work, aiming at giving happiness and supporting disadvantaged groups, Othman added.

A delegation of the centre is currently preparing to travel to New Delhi in early May to support an event in accordance with the cooperation agreement signed between the two sides.

The students’ products will be presented at vocational rehabilitation workshops in India. The event is expected to be attended by dignitaries from the UAE and India.
