Abu Dhabi book fair opens

EXHIBITION FEATURES OVER 1,300 EXHIBITORS AND 800 ACTIVITIES, DISCUSSION­S AND SEMINARS AS WELL AS THOUSANDS OF TITLES

Event brings together 1,300 exhibitors from 65 countries and features more than 800 activities

Over 1,300 exhibitors from 65 countries welcomed people to the 27th Abu Dhabi Internatio­nal Book Fair (ADIBF) at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) yesterday.

Taking over a staggering 35,000 square metres at Adnec, the event, which will run until May 2, will feature over 800 activities, discussion­s and seminars as well as thousands of books from around the world that would appeal to people of all ages and background­s.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), the event was inaugurate­d by Lt-General Shaikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, followed by a ceremony at the fair’s Guest of Honour’s pavilion, China.

Speaking to Gulf News, Saif Saeed Gobash, director-general of TCA Abu Dhabi, said, “Abu Dhabi plays an important role in supporting literature, publishing and culture. ADIBF is a platform for all writers, intellectu­als and profession­als in the fields of publishing, digital media and eservices from all over the world. It is also an important opportunit­y for us to present them with informatio­n about Emirati literary products by playing host to the most prominent writers, intellectu­als and publishing houses in the UAE.

Gobash went on to say that TCA Abu Dhabi hopes to establish Abu Dhabi as one of the major global tourist destinatio­ns considerin­g what it has to offer to the world, from the diverse and high standard tourist services to the rich culture, heritage, traditions, ancient monuments and attractive modern features.

The event’s comprehens­ive programme ranges from profession­al, cultural and creative events to book signings and extensive cookery and children’s programmes.
