India Club UAE Open badminton tournament gets under way

40th edition of the event to be contested by 632 players

-

The 40th edition of the Henna Speedy India Club UAE Open Badminton Tournament was inaugurated and got off to a colourful start at the India Club.

The tournament was inaugurated by Vasu Shroff (Chairman of India Club) in the presence of Sunil Singh (Head of the UAE Open Badminton Tournament Committee), Gazi Al Madani (Chairman, Badminton Committee for UAE and Sport/ Tourism Manager, Dubai Sports Council) and Manoj Sharma (Managing Partner, Dubai National Advertising).

A record number of over 632 participants in the Men’s, Ladies, Boys & Girls, and Veterans categories will vie for top honours in the 28 categories. All the matches are being played in the 21-point format in line with rules & regulations of the Badminton World Federation (BWF).

Each player is restricted to participate only in three events. This is basically to create opportunity for more players to make it to the top rather than a select few taking top positions.

India Club’s CSR

As a part of India Club’s drive towards corporate social responsibility, badminton matches will also be conducted for the special needs students of SNF Development Center, Dubai Autism Center and Blue Color Workers.

Every participant will receive a gift voucher worth Dh300 redeemable for Yonex Professional rackets.

This tournament was held for the first time in 1978. The finals of the tournament are scheduled for May 19.

Nobel Consumer & Home Electronics, Amity School, Air India, Consolidated Shipping Group, Carrera Sunglasses, Aarushi Designs and Super Vision Opticals are the co sponsors of the event.
