Dominant Admaja records hat-trick in men’s singles at India Club
Young Tanisha win mixed doubles and under-15 crown
Imam Adi Kusuma Admaja stamped his authority by recording a hat-trick in the men’s singles of the 40th India Club — Henna Speedy UAE Open Badminton. Admaja, who hails from Indonesia but based in Dubai, stopped his countryman DEA Adi Rangga 13-21, 22-20, 21-5 in the final of this oldest badminton tournament at the India Club.
Interestingly the final turned out to be a clash of two badminton coaches that grooms youngsters. Admaja is a coach with Prime Star Sports Academy in Rashidiya while Rangga is a member of the coaching staff at Professional Sports Academy in Dubai. Both of them were also the finalists in the men’s singles at the Indian Social Centre badminton tournament this year with Admaja winning the title.
Tanisha Crasto, who created history by becoming the youngest player at the age of 14 to win the women’s singles title beating Iran based Negin Amiripour 21-9, 21-19, won the mixed double title too partnering Ketan Chahal to beat Rangga who had partnered Febriani Endar Kusumawati 21-18, 2426, 21-18. She also won the girls singles under-15 title beating Simona Pilgaard 21-16, 21-7.
Ketan Chahal emerged champion in the men’s doubles too by partnering Jaffer Ebrahim to defeat Akbar Basri and Rangga 21-12, 17-21, 2115. Chahal is a bronze medallist in Senior Nationals in India in 2016 and 2017 and silver medallist in the National Games in India held in 2015 and 2016. He is a record four-time winner of the India Club mixed doubles title.
Though Febriani has lost the mixed double title, she won the ladies doubles title with Dilisuci Desuari Sela defeating Simona Pilgaard and Sindia Pilgaard 21-11, 21-11.
The tournament produced many young winners as contests were held from under the age of nine to under-19. In the girls under-9 singles final Saachi Miland Joshi
beat Taralakshmi Karthikeyan 21-12, 14-21, 21-15 while under-9 boys title was won by Riyan Malhan beating Noel Cherian Jacob 21-11, 14-21, 21-14.
