Man kills daughter for failing Grade 10 exam

Father had hoped that good grades would help him secure a suitable groom for his daughter

Aman in Bihar killed his daughter after she failed the Grade 10 state board examination, the results of which were declared last week. The incident took place at Mirchaiya village in east Champaran district on Friday.

Police said Anjali Kumari, 15, and Anshu Kumari, 14, sat for a matriculation examination at a local government high school this year.

However, Anjali failed the test while her younger sister passed the exam with good marks.

Anjali’s failure left her father Manoj Kumar Pandey very infuriated.

“In a fit of rage, he dragged her to a room, increased the volume of the TV and then strangled her to death after giving her a sound beating,” the victim’s mother, Ruby Devi, told the police.

Later the police rushed to the house and recovered the body. Based on the statement by the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case and are searching for Pandey, who is at large.

“We have registered a case on the basis of a statement of the mother and are conducting raids to nab him. He will be arrested soon,” Jitendra Rana, local district superintendent of police, told the media today.

Reports said the accused had been looking for the suitable groom for his daughter once she had passed the exam. He was hopeful that she would pass the exam with good marks, something he figured would help him get a good groom for her.
