Iconic Club ease past Malik Contractin­g to clinch UAQ Weekend Night tournament

James pick of the bowlers with a fourwicket haul as Rashid cracks half century

Iconic Cricket Club won the Umm Al Quwain Cricket Club popular Weekend Night tournament final defeating Malik Contractin­g LLC by six wickets.

Despite shortage of ground, the organisers are ensuring that their popular tournament­s are held before extreme summer heat.

The tournament is being held under the under the auspices of the Ajman Cricket Council and Emirates Cricket Board’s Domestic Cricket Developmen­t Committee.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Malik Contractin­g lost their prolific batsman Bakhtiyar Khan and his partner Ahsan Ullah Khan for duck. Hasnain Shah scored a 19-ball 25 runs including two boundaries and a six. Ahsan Ali Abbas hit a steady 31 runs supported by four boundaries while Ihtisham Sadeeq hit a 11-ball 21 containing a boundary and two sixes as Malik Contractin­g recovered from the poor start.

Fawad Ali smashed a late 20ball 21 including two boundaries as Malik Contractin­g posted 147 in 20 overs.

Iconic CC: 149 for 4 in 19.4 overs (Junzab Eisar 20, Nadeem Abbas 24n.o, Arsalan Rashid 50; Mohammad Amir Shahzad 2 for 20).

Quick start

Chasing the target, Iconic’s Junzab Eisar smashed a 14-ball 20 to give a quick start.

Arsalan Rashid cracked a 37ball 50 peppered with five hits to the fence and three over it before Omar Dager (18n.o) and Nadeem Abbas (24 n.o) helped Iconic reach the target with two balls to spare.
