Check your car regularly

-

I t’s good practice to change your oil filter at the same time you change your oil (‘7 ways to reduce the risk of a car breakdown this summer’, Gulf News, July 15). Get a reputable garage to check your radiator, water pump and thermostat. Don’t use the petrol station staff. Use coolant or a water/coolant mix (check the owner’s manual for the ratio). Water alone won’t do the job. Another important part is the fan belt. From Mr Ali Fikree Dubai Facebook comment

Old cars need more care

M ostly radiator tank leakages are because of the heat even with coolant water still inside the radiator. If your car is new, then you likely don’t need to worry. If car is an old model, be careful. From Mr Shahzad C. Dubai Facebook comment

Use coolants

W ater is not a problem solver. Coolant is a must. A good quality coolant must be put in the car. It can easily run for up to a year or even longer. From Mr Mujtaba Haider UAE Facebook comment

Regular radiator checks

F ill your car with coolant and coolant additives. Some drivers just pour water into their cars. Check your radiator hoses. If they are starting to look fattened or if they are bigger than its normal size, it mean you have a large risk of breaking down on the road. It will burst and damage your engine, too. Change your radiator thermostat, too, to avoid break down. Check your engine belts to know if it is still reliable — it may snap in a way that will surprise you. Be more considerate!

I ts alarming to know that wild life is facing mass extinction faster than ever (‘Scientists: ‘Sixth extinction’ of wildlife faster than feared’, Gulf News, July 12). We humans are solely responsible for this.

As reports say in this article, over consumption, habitat loss and climate change are few factors. The natural habitat of wildlife has declined and the majority of forest area has been transformed into cities or farms. Within a few decades many mammals and reptiles will be wiped out from Earth. We have already lost many species of flora and fauna and are continuing to lose many more due to our greed and selfishness. Human interference has largely damaged our environment over the years. We should now learn to be more considerate towards Nature and treat her with care. From Mr Eappen Elias Dubai

Dangerous littering

U nfortunately, many of these littering violators aren’t all getting caught (‘Motorists caught littering in Dubai risk being fined twice’, Gulf News, July 14). I was out with friends driving on Shaikh Zayed Road and the car in front of us threw a takeaway tea cup, which hit our windshield and the leftover tea smeared all over!

It was such a shock that my friend who was driving had to pull over so we

No regard for others

P lease use the ‘We Are Police’ option in the Dubai Police app to report these jokers. They are also tossing their burning hot cigarettes out of running cars without any safety regard for others. From Mr Muzammil S. UAE Facebook comment

Finding a bin

I t’s a good decision and, on the other hand, I have seen many people who even travel long distances to find a garbage bin to throw their waste. This is something that is taught through family values. From Mr Majid Ali Madina, Saudi Arabia Facebook comment
