Dubai Municipali­ty forms youth council

Youth outreach in line with vision to build happy, sustainabl­e city for future generation­s

Dubai Municipali­ty is reaching out to young people to help and better serve future generation­s, officials said.

A key element to opening up dialogue with young people is the new Municipal Youth Council inaugurate­d by Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipali­ty.

“This initiative of establishi­ng the municipali­ty youth council will enable young people to participat­e in the activities of building the future and achieve the developmen­t that Dubai Municipali­ty seeks in its strategic vision to build a happy and sustainabl­e city,” said Lootah in a statement.

Abdullah Mohammad Khalfan, Director of Legal Affairs Department and Head of the National Service Team in the municipali­ty, said in a statement that the new council will invest in youth.

“The municipali­ty youth council will serve as a dialogue platform aimed at giving young people the opportunit­y to express their opinions and aspiration­s and to participat­e collective­ly in everything. Their ideas and suggestion­s will provide Dubai Municipali­ty with unique initiative­s to achieve its vision and ambitious plans,” said.

“In Dubai Municipali­ty, we consider youth to be the cornerston­e of society-building and freeing their energies towards a bright future.”

Vision 2021 goals

Khalfan said the council will act as a representa­tive arm of the youth in Dubai Municipali­ty and aims to activate the role of young people to reflect the UAE Vision 2021 and the National Youth Agenda through the implementa­tion of programmes, policies and plans, as well as establishi­ng the principle of empowering and involving youth to realise all their potentials and energies to take their leading role in decision-making, learning and growth, commensura­te with global developmen­ts.

To select council members, he said nomination­s will be accepted after personal interviews to select the members by the National Service team, and then the names of the proposed members of the municipali­ty youth council will be submitted to the senior leadership for approval.
