Dubai Municipality forms youth council
Youth outreach in line with vision to build happy, sustainable city for future generations
Dubai Municipality is reaching out to young people to help and better serve future generations, officials said.
A key element to opening up dialogue with young people is the new Municipal Youth Council inaugurated by Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
“This initiative of establishing the municipality youth council will enable young people to participate in the activities of building the future and achieve the development that Dubai Municipality seeks in its strategic vision to build a happy and sustainable city,” said Lootah in a statement.
Abdullah Mohammad Khalfan, Director of Legal Affairs Department and Head of the National Service Team in the municipality, said in a statement that the new council will invest in youth.
“The municipality youth council will serve as a dialogue platform aimed at giving young people the opportunity to express their opinions and aspirations and to participate collectively in everything. Their ideas and suggestions will provide Dubai Municipality with unique initiatives to achieve its vision and ambitious plans,” said.
“In Dubai Municipality, we consider youth to be the cornerstone of society-building and freeing their energies towards a bright future.”
Vision 2021 goals
Khalfan said the council will act as a representative arm of the youth in Dubai Municipality and aims to activate the role of young people to reflect the UAE Vision 2021 and the National Youth Agenda through the implementation of programmes, policies and plans, as well as establishing the principle of empowering and involving youth to realise all their potentials and energies to take their leading role in decision-making, learning and growth, commensurate with global developments.
To select council members, he said nominations will be accepted after personal interviews to select the members by the National Service team, and then the names of the proposed members of the municipality youth council will be submitted to the senior leadership for approval.
