UAE go down fighting to champions Australia

Hosts’ impressive performanc­e attracts praise from opponent skipper Teske

The UAE men’s team went down fighting against nine-time champions and holders Australia on the second day of the World Indoor Cricket Federation World Cup at Insportz yesterday when they fell short by 12 runs.

UAE’s impressive performanc­e even won praise from the Australian skipper Lyle Teske, who said: “I think the UAE are a great side and they exceeded our expectatio­n of their ability, definitely lots of talent. Australia men too got the better of their Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand, in a replay of the 2014 Indoor Cricket World Cup Men’s Open Final, and the result was the same as well Australia winning 61 to 43, and getting 3 skins points.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan men scored an emphatic win over Malaysia.
