Modular data centre complex completed at Dubai airport

Complex is first of two facilities that Huawei will build for Dubai Airports

Dubai Airports yesterday announced the completion of the world’s first tier-III certified Modular Data Centre Complex at Dubai International Airport.

The complex is equipped with new technology to ensure high levels of resilience and business continuity to support the airport’s operations.

Dubai Airports worked with Huawei to design and build the data complex, incorporating smart operations and intelligent management platforms.

The facility will provide an environment for Dubai Airports to host its private cloud, the airport operator said in a statement.

The centre at Dubai International is the first of two planned modular facilities that Huawei will build for Dubai Airports. Together, they will operate as a pair of mirrored data centres, interconnected through a fibre optic link to support the operations of Dubai Airports.

The timeline for the second facility is yet to be finalised, Dubai Airports said.

“This centre boosts our operational efficiency and powers our ability to grow, innovate, and enhance the customer experience,” said Michael Ibbitson, executive vice-president for Dubai Airports.

“With over 240,000 passengers and 1,100 flights per day, zero downtime and hundreds of internal and external systems to manage, high reliability and resilience are critical requirements for Dubai Airports’ business technology infrastructure.”
