The man appeared to be in his forties was arrested for illegally entering the UAE from Oman and had been detained for eight months. He had no identification papers.

An Indian man’s body has been lying in an Abu Dhabi hospital morgue for three months as the Indian Embassy’s continuous efforts to trace his family have not succeeded.

The local authorities informed the embassy that Narsayya Gosika died on November 10, 2017 of a heart attack at a deportation centre in Abu Dhabi, a senior embassy official told Gulf News yesterday.

The man appeared to be in his forties, was arrested for illegally entering the UAE from Oman and detained during the preceding eight months.

Gosika was supposed to be deported but the procedure could not be completed as he did not have any identification documents with him. During the regular jail visits of the embassy officials, Gosika looked abnormal and could not recollect his own details.

Still he had given this address: Darpilly in Nizamabad district in Telangana state in south India.

Relatives untraced

However, the Telangana government could not trace his whereabouts to prove his identity as an Indian, the official said.

After several follow-up efforts, the embassy received a letter on December 17, 2017 from the district collector [the head of district administration] of Nizamabad, which said Gosika had lived in the given address 20 years ago and his family members, relatives or acquaintances were not found in the village.

Embassy seeks help

Therefore, the embassy has written to the Telangana government again, saying that the body will be buried in Abu Dhabi as was requested by the embassy, if his family or relatives are untraceable.

A copy of the letter issued by Baniyas police station in Abu Dhabi on November 29, 2017 read that the Public Prosecution had given permission on November 19 last year to hand over the body to the representatives of the family or the Indian Embassy. The body could be repatriated to his home country or buried in Abu Dhabi, according to the letter.

Those who have any information about the deceased can contact the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.
