Girls perfect their serve on court

The tennis star, who has five singles and six doubles career titles, enjoyed a show at The Dubai Fountain

The world number seven took some time out ahead of her first round match to also experience the new The Dubai Fountain Boardwalk and witness views of the world’s largest performing fountains.

The Dubai Fountain Boardwalk, a brand-new floating platform gives a new perspectiv­e of the dancing fountains from just nine metres away. Garcia, who has five singles and six doubles career titles, begins her quest for the Dubai title today, when she plays Lucie Safarova in the final match of the day on Centre Court. Tennis Emirates hosted more than 70 young female players from affiliated tennis academies across the UAE during their Coaching Clinic at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championsh­ips on Tuesday.

The girls, ranging in age from under eight to under 16, participat­ed in a clinic run by Tennis Emirates staff and Academy coaches. They were joined by the Japanese doubles team of Miyu Kato and Makoto Ninomiya, who helped the participan­ts fine-tune their skills during the morning session.

“I’ve been playing tennis for nine years, and it’s been the best years. My dream is to be a profession­al tennis player, and play in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championsh­ips,” said Shaikha Al Janahi, one of the participan­ts. “It was great to see the doubles players today, it was pretty cool to meet them and play with them.” Carlos Luna, director of events at Tennis Emirates, added: “It’s great to have the children here today, they are all active tennis players and they love seeing profession­al players in action that they can aspire to, and this afternoon Japanese tennis players Miyu Kato and Makoto Ninomiya greet fans.

Tennis Emirates will host a number of young male tennis players during the ATP tournament, which commences on February 26.
