What makes a better motorist?

Better to know than get fined

Y es, I think knowing the different traffic violations would help improve my driving. There have been several instances that I have heard of where my close friends and family have had to pay fines for things like lane discipline, a violation they had not known about before. The fear of getting a hefty fine would be enough for me to make sure I avoid any bad driving habits. As I continue to regulate myself due to these violations, I will probably be conditioned to follow the traffic rules. Whether or not others on the road follow the rules, I would ensure that I keep to my best driving behaviour. Often times, I feel like there are a lot of fines and violations in the UAE. that no one really knows too much about. I would be very afraid to not have any idea about something that I could potentially be fined for. There have been several instances that I have heard of where my close friends and family have had to pay fines for things they didn’t know were offences. From Ms Divya Suri Dubai

Careful because I know

there are about 211 fines for different traffic violations. The knowledge about the RTA fines or driving violations and other offences will have a very positive effect on drivers. Now that I know of them I will be extra careful while driving. From Ms Shail M. India

Lessons learnt

I have been arrested twice back in my country, once for making a wrong turn and another time for overspeeding at 55km/h instead of 50km/h within the area. They don’t offer a 20km/h allowance, so I learned my lesson. From Mr Felix Gitonga UAE Njiru

Rather take public transport

I will give my opinion based on the experience of my friends who are new to driving. Before they passed their driving lessons and had their licence, they underwent expensive training and actual test not once but many times and failed. In short, they touch the topics on traffic laws and violations that they might encounter on the street. Sometimes they said they did not even know how they got a ticket because for such violations, there was no means to argue but to pay the fines. Knowing more of the violations makes them nervous, which might affect their confidence while driving. Confusions arises in avoiding fines. They drive anxiously and was panic stricken when the police tailgate them. In my assumption, I rather use public transport to avoid traffic violations, fines, and the headache of congested traffic. From Mrs Corazon Tarcena Satwa, Dubai

Drive carefully either way

I think knowing the different traffic fines can have two outcomes, either it makes people prepared, or it makes them nervous. Not being confident on the road is very dangerous. That’s why the knowledge of fines should be at the back of your mind. Fines or not people should drive carefully and not endanger anyone on the road. From Mr Rohan Krishna UAE
