Fred Savage accused of assaulting colleague
YoungJoo Hwang alleged that the ‘Wonder Years’ actor was hostile toward her for the entirety of her time as a costumier on the series ‘The Grinder’
A former crew member of Fox’s The Grinder filed a lawsuit on Wednesday accusing actor Fred Savage of assault and battery.
YoungJoo Hwang, represented by attorney Anahita Sedaghatfar of the Cochran Firm, held a news conference on Wednesday morning to elaborate on her claims that Savage routinely used aggressive behaviour and intimidation toward female employees.
Hwang alleged that Savage was hostile toward her for the entirety of her time as a costumier on the 2015 series The Grinder, culminating in an incident in which the former Wonder Years actor struck her on the arm three times.
Savage denied Hwang’s accusations in a statement released on Wednesday.
During the news conference, Hwang also said that despite bringing the incident to the attention of her superiors, Fox never addressed the situation; Twentieth Century Fox Film Corp. also is named in Hwang’s lawsuit.
Hwang said she left the show after no action was taken against Savage, though she remains employed by Fox.
“Ms Hwang alleges that not only did she report Mr Savage’s conduct to her superiors on the set of The Grinder, but other female crew members similarly lodged complaints and reported Mr Savage’s conduct,” Sedaghatfar said.
“To date, Twentieth Century Fox has still not conducted an independent investigation as to Mr Savage’s conduct and for this, they need to be held accountable,” the attorney continued.
