A13-year-old boy is recovering in a hospital after a team of doctors performed surgery to close deep lacerations following an attack by two dogs on a beach in Al Faseel area, Fujairah Police said yesterday.

The attack was severe, leaving large open cuts on the Emirati teen’s body that needed immediate medical treatment at Fujairah Hospital.

Alarming video footage captured by a bystander showed the two dogs attacking the teen who was wearing shorts and a red shirt. In the video, one young boy can be seen hitting one of the dogs in an attempt to drive it away from the victim. The dog refused to release his bite on the victim’s neck area.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the ownership of the animals, a police source told Gulf News.

The victim, Ammar Al Mesmari, was enjoying an outing at the beach on Thursday afternoon when suddenly two dogs appeared from nowhere and launched the vicious assault.

Police did not identify the breed of the dogs but said they are commonly used for illegal fighting. Early investigation suggests both dogs were not strays but belong to an Emirati man who lives in the area.

At press time, the teenager was under observation in the hospital and was reported to be in serious, but stable condition.
