Child protection drive launched

This year’s campaign focuses on father’s role and responsibi­lities towards his children

The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) has launched its ninth campaign to protect children against physical abuse.

This year’s campaign, titled “Do not underestim­ate your presence’ focuses on father’s role and responsibi­lities towards his children.

The media content of the annual campaign highlights the importance of the father’s role throughout the stages of their children’s lives and the impact of his absence on them.

The content is broadcast on all social media platforms under hashtag #Childhhod_Campaign. Awareness lectures about the father’s important part in his children’s lives will be held during the campaign.

Afraa Al Basti, director general of DFWAC, said: “The father’s role in bringing up and nurturing his children is one of the important issue that concern us at the foundation, which has received nearly 352 child victims of abuse by their fathers since the foundation was launched in 2007.”

She called on fathers to spend enough time with their children to enhance their mental. emotional and social growth,

Fatima Al Falasi, community education executive at DFWAC and director of the child protection campaign highlighte­d the importance of fathers’ realisatio­n of the importance of their presence in their children’s lives.

“Fathers should realise their importance in the lives of their children and that their role is not limited to providing material needs but their fundamenta­l role is to fully engage in bringing up their children and help meet their emotional and psychologi­cal needs by building strong bonds with them.”
