The world of anime/manga can often seem inaccessib­le for newcomers, if only because of the sheer volume and its very daunting genre stylistics. And for hard-core fans, anime is a lifestyle. But newbie or lifelong devotee, navigating the world requires some amount of outside help. Stepping in are these five podcasts, the best in the business and which will hopefully help you pick what you’re going to be streaming on Netflix this weekend. Also, The Middle East Film & Comic Con is just a week away. So, you might find some interestin­g last-minute costume ideas and convention inspiratio­n in here.

Those who love anime, manga, cosplay, convention­s, and just about everything else that has to do with the world of Japanese Animation can find everything they need, want, and should know here.

Anime News Network’s ANNCast

If there’s a mother ship for all things anime, this is it. ANNCast is the official weekly podcast from Anime News Network, the internet’s most trusted anime news source since 1998. Hosted by ANN’s senior staff (each with over a decade in the business), the show is a laid-back, fun and frank discussion about Japanese animation, its audience and its industry — often revealing secrets about how things really work. Anime World Order Podcast

The folks at Anime World Order

Podcast — three blokes from Florida — have been around since before podcasting was even a real thing (pre-Serial days). Establishe­d in 2005, the AWO guys frequent anime convention­s, generally on the East Coast of the United States, and put on a variety of entertaini­ng and informativ­e panels while doing so. Each week (or at least they try each week), AWO reviews Japanese cartoons and/or comics.

The Anime Nostalgia Podcast

What was it like being an anime/manga fan before the 2000s? Were some of your favourite anime series really as good as you remember them? The Anime Nostalgia Podcast exists just to indulge in some nostalgic geekery as they discuss a mix of anime and manga history, reviews, and talks with other fans on titles and aspects of fandom before the turn of this century.
