Gusty winds will kick up dust in open areas, scattered showers forecast in some areas

- Staff Report

If you’re heading outdoors in the next two days, it’s best to keep a handkerchief, face mask and an umbrella in hand as the weather will be dusty with chances of scattered rain.

The National Centre of Meteorology said the weather today will be cloudy and dusty due to northwesterly winds with speeds of 25km/h to 35km/h, with gusts of 50km/h. Similar conditions are expected tomorrow.

Early yesterday, portions of the UAE’s skyline disappeared from view in a blanket of dust. Visibility dropped to 2,000 metres in some areas. In some open spaces in Sharjah, buildings could not be seen from a distance of 100 metres, a motorist said.

Scattered showers were recorded in Abu Dhabi Corniche, Kalba Road, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Maktoum International Airport and Al Ain Airport yesterday.

The cloud cover is expected to increase today and that could bring some rain over internal and eastern areas.

Temperatures will drop in most of the UAE, especially in western areas, by six degrees Celsius till tomorrow.

Temperatures are expected to fall by 2C-4C in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, and Al Ain.

The Arabian Gulf will be rough to very rough with waves reaching 5 to 7 feet in height today and tomorrow.
