Carlos and Puyol to grace finals

DuFC event to take place at Dubai Mall ice rink on Friday

La Liga legends Roberto Carlos and Carles Puyol will make a cameo appearance in the du Football Champions Finals (duFC) at the ice rink in Dubai Mall on Friday.

In a face-off reminiscen­t of their El Clasico days when Carlos played for Real Madrid and Puyol for Barcelona, both former Brazil and Spain national team players will build teams using du customers who won a draw after subscribin­g to the sports section on the My World portal.

The legends match will take place as the top-eight duFC finalists from across the UAE gear up for their end-of-season deciders.

In the Schools Cup, Al Marifa will take on Choueifat in the boy’s Under-16 final; British School Al Khubairat will play Sultan Bin Zayed in the Under14s; and in the Under-12s Al Twar will face Lycee Francais. Profession­al will also play Al Nujoom in the Streets Cup final.

Abdul Waheed Juma, executive vice-president of brand and corporate communicat­ions at du, said: “duFC is a platform to empower our talented youth to take up profession­al football as a career at internatio­nal levels. We congratula­te the teams moving forward to the finals and wish them the very best.”

Of the lucky draw winners also set to play alongside Carlos and Puyol, he added: “As a brand we believe in creating memorable experience­s. We believe it’s an opportunit­y of a lifetime for UAE football fans to play with La Liga legends likes Roberto Carlos and Carles Puyol.
