Sharjah car plate No. 3 fetches Dh9m

3 NUMBERS ALLOCATED FOR BIG HEART FOUNDATION EARN DH2.82M

Auction of 55 distinguis­hed licence plates generates Dh25.57 million |

Plate No. 3 was sold for a whopping Dh9 million after some fierce bidding at the auction of distinguis­hed car number plates in Sharjah yesterday.

The sale of fancy number plates generated Dh25.57 million as organisers had a tough time controllin­g the proceeding­s held in a charged atmosphere with more than 500 people participat­ing enthusiast­ically in the bidding process.

Within minutes after the bidding began, the price of the No. 3 plate shot up to Dh9 million from Dh1 million.

A total of 55 distinguis­hed licence plates were sold at the event held at the Jawaher Hall.

Six-digit number

Among the most prominent number plates in the auction was the six-digit number plate — 100000 — in addition to the only single-digit number in the auction — 3.

The auction also included three double-digit number plates — 13, 30 and 44 — nine triple-digit number plates — 115, 131, 210, 311, 456, 500, 609, 696 and 990 — 19 fourdigit number plates and as many five-digit number plates.

Meanwhile, the three distinguis­hed numbers (3333, 111, 303) allocated by Sharjah Police to the Big Heart Foundation generated Dh2.82 million.

Plate No. 3333 fetched Dh1.34 million, 111 earned Dh1.02 million and 303 got Dh460,000.

The No. 30 was sold for Dh3 million and plate No. 44 was picked up for Dh2.15 million.

Several other plates generated hundreds of thousands of dirhams, the organisers said.

The bidders were required to submit a guarantee cheque which was refunded in case a number was not acquired by the participan­t.

Bids began anywhere from Dh5,000 to Dh1 million, depending on the licence plate.

Great interest

Participan­ts who made the winning bids can register the number plates in their name or transfer it to another person or an entity after fulfilling procedures of vehicle registrati­on.

Major-General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, praised Emirates Auction’s organisati­on of the event and expressed his joy for the amount that was raised for the Big Heart Foundation.

He also expressed his gratitude for all those who participat­ed in the charity auction as it embodies the noble values that characteri­ses the people of the UAE and reflects their great interest in helping those in need all around the world.
