Speaking truth to power – The White House Correspondents’ Dinner was held earlier this week and the performance by comedienne Michelle Wolf was praised and panned alike. US President Donald Trump continued to break from tradition and did not attend. Yesterday was also ‘Vesak’, the day of the full moon in May, which is considered to be the day Buddha was born two and a half millennia ago.
@VABVOX: If you’re more distressed about the jokes #MichelleWolf told tonight than about the lies Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway tell every day, you should rethink your priorities.
@JohnRMoffitt: How do you know that America has crossed a line in becoming too authoritarian? When speaking truth to power has become more controversial than people in power lying to the American people on a daily (almost hourly) basis! #WHCD #MichelleWolf
@ToDropADime2: #MichelleWolf (A COMEDIAN) might have been offensive at the #whcorrespondentsdinner but #Trump attacked the disabled, a war hero, called other countries SHITHOLES and mocks and lies daily. The difference... HE’S THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. Why is it okay for him???
@tamaraleighllc: .@PressSec is an amazing, classy, intelligent, principled, professional woman! #MichelleWolf reveals ugliness from the inside out & any destruction is to herself. #WHCD
Scott Ryan Presler: Michelle Wolf’s presentation tonight was vile, not even funny and speaks volumes of the Democratic party. If I’m ever blessed with a daughter, I’d want her to grow up like Sarah Huckabee Sanders, never #MichelleWolf. #WHCD
@jessica_simonsen: Today is #Vesak which is also known as #BuddhaDay. It is celebrated by meditating, donating to charity, eating vegetarian food and doing the Eight Precepts. The streets look beautiful with colourful flags and lanterns. I am grateful that we get to experience this national holiday in Sri Lanka.
@ianuradhas: On this day, #Buddhists around Sri Lanka #celebrate Vesak, which commemorates the #birth, #enlightenment, and #death of the Buddha.
