White points system enjoying rising success

This motivational system is fetching rewards that augur well for Dubai Police’s zero-fatality goal

-

The launch of the white points system by Dubai Police in 2012 has led to an increasing awareness on the importance of disciplined driving and the joys of being recognised as a safe driver. The proof of this lies in the rising numbers of responsible drivers being awarded by the year. For example, during the launch year, there were 700 winners, which, by 2017, rose to 2,000. And this year, Dubai Police has decided to honour 2,600 safe drivers from an impressive 65,298 eligibles for the honour. The 24 white points awarded to each safe driver offer a cache of benefits including redeeming them in several ways and even availing of the chance to cancel fines in lieu.

This motivational initiative is fetching rewards that augur well for Dubai Police’s zero-fatality goal for 2020. The greater the awareness and eagerness displayed by motorists to earn white points, the more the dividends on the road in terms of safe driving and overall improvement in motorists’ safety.

The multi-pronged approaches by the Dubai Police to combat traffic fatalities and violations, of which the white points system is but one, are all oriented towards reducing the negative statistics. For example, in 2017, Dubai Police posted a 36 per cent decrease in casualties as compared to the death rates in the previous two years.

The anomaly of road safety is that an indisciplined driver does not just hamper his or her own safety, but ends up impacting the safety of rule-abiding drivers. Therefore, every measure taken to heighten awareness in this regard goes a long way in ensuring a safe outcome for all.
