FNC Speaker welcomes US President’s Iran strategy

Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council affirmed that the House backs US President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the nuclear deal with Iran and welcomes his strategy in this regard.

“We stress the need for the international community to cooperate with the US administration to free the Middle East from nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, to preserve international security and stability,” Al Qubaisi said in her speech at the opening of the House’s session yesterday.

Trump announced on Tuesday he was quitting the Iran nuclear deal, leaving the future of Tehran’s nuclear ambitions in question.

“It is clear to me that we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement,” Trump said from the White House. “The Iran deal is defective at its core. If we do nothing we know exactly what will happen.”

Trump said he would initiate new sanctions on the regime, crippling the touchstone agreement negotiated by his predecessor.

Libya attack condemned

Trump said any country that helps Iran obtain nuclear weapons would also be “strongly sanctioned.”

Meanwhile, Al Qubaisi said the FNC condemns in the strongest terms the terrorist attacks that targeted the headquarters of the Electoral Commission in Tripoli, on May 2, as well as the bombing of the voter registration centre in eastern Afghanistan last Sunday.
