That negligence or carelessness on the part of examination paper evaluators can turn the life of a student into a living hell has once again been highlighted by the story of a Junior college student in Anantapur district.

The girl, Naga Navya, who had passed all her school examinations and even the first year of Intermediate with distinction was declared failed in the Second Year Intermediate results. The result not only drowned the girl and her entire family in shock but even the management of her college.

Applied for recount

Her memorandum of marks showed that she had secured more than 90 per cent marks in all the subjects but got only 19 marks in Economics.

Not satisfied with the results, the girl finally applied for a recount of her marks.

Around 26 days after her first results, officials announced the student had not failed but passed with distinction.

She had secured 91 marks in Economics but sloppiness on the part of the evaluators resulted in the marks being recorded as 19.

According to the corrected result published on the website of the Board of Intermediate of Andhra Pradesh government, the student secured a total of 962 marks in the combined result of the first and second year.

Heaving a sigh of relief Naga Navya’s father Ram Kishore said, “thank God my daughter passes and she was brave enough to pass through this trial. But some other student could have taken an extreme step and harm himself. I request authorities not to play with the lives of the students”.
