UAE seeks cooperatio­n in space sector with Canada

Abdullah visits Canadian Space Agency, lauds country’s space programme

Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Internatio­nal Cooperatio­n, visited the office of the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in Quebec as part of his official visit to Canada.

Shaikh Abdullah listened to a presentati­on given by CSA president Sylvain Laporte on the agency’s work and programmes. Shaikh Abdullah and his accompanyi­ng delegation then toured the agency’s facilities, which were equipped with advanced systems used to contribute towards developing Canada’s national space sector.

He lauded the Canadian space programme which is administer­ed by the agency, recognisin­g Canada as one of the leading industrial countries in the field of space science advanced innovation­s. ■

Shaikh Abdullah also expressed the UAE’s interest to further boost cooperatio­n with Canada in the sector, in the light of the signing of a memorandum of understand­ing between the space agencies of both countries on Wednesday.

Shaikh Abdullah was accompanie­d by Dr Ahmad Abdullah Humaid Bel Houl Al Falasi, Minister of State for Higher Education and Advanced Skills and chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Space Agency; Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligen­ce; and Fahd Saeed Al Raqbani, UAE Ambassador to Canada.

Canada’s space programme dates back to after the Second World War, and the country’s agencies continued their commitment to develop the sector to meet national requiremen­ts.
