Kuwaiti Bazaar has a vibrant atmosphere

- BY SHAFAAT SHAHBANDARI Staff Reporter

In Ras Al Khaimah it seems the entire emirate descends on the Kuwaiti Bazaar during Ramadan nights despite the presence of several malls and department stores. With bright lights and glittering merchandise, the atmosphere in the Kuwaiti Bazaar, which has taken its name from the Kuwaiti Hospital in the vicinity, is electrifying.

“I come here every other day and not necessarily for shopping. There are some nice cafés and karak shops here facing the sea,” said 15-year-old Abdul Aziz.

Abdul Aziz’s friend Nasir Saeed also loves shopping at the Kuwaiti Bazaar.

“I am here to shop for Eid. Caps, shoes, watches, you get what you want for a bargain, unlike in malls where everything is expensive. Besides shopping, the atmosphere is so great,” said Saeed, as he checks out a new hat.

Saeed’s elder brother Ahmad said that he has been visiting the Kuwaiti Bazaar since his childhood.

“In those days, there was no other option if you wanted to go shopping, either you came here or you went to Sharjah or Dubai. It used to be much busier before, but it continues to be popular despite other options available now. I personally love to do all my shopping here. Besides, this is the place where friends get together,” added Ahmad, as he purchased some clothes for Eid.

During Ramadan, shops in the bazaar remain open well beyond midnight. ■
