Awoman, who abetted her lover to murder her husband by mowing him down and burning his body, had her 15-year jail term raised to a life sentence yesterday.

The 32-year-old lover, from Comoros Islands, lured his countryman best friend to a car, struck him with a rock, mowed him down and killed him before setting him on fire in October 2016.

In March, the Dubai Court of First Instance convicted the 32-year-old defendant of premeditatedly murdering the victim in collaboration with the latter’s wife.

The lover was handed capital punishment and the 22-year-old wife, also from Comoros Islands, was sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Prosecutors appealed the primary judgement against the defendants and asked the Appeal Court to uphold the 32-year-old defendant’s death sentence and to increase the wife’s 15-year jail term.

Incited

Meanwhile, the defendants pleaded not guilty and asked for a reduced punishment.

The 32-year-old defendant renewed his plea that the woman incited him to kill her husband.

Yesterday, the Dubai Appeal Court upheld the death sentence against the defendant.

Presiding judge Eisa Al Sharif said the court approved prosecutors’ appeal and increased woman’s jail term to a life sentence.

She will be deported following the completion of her punishment.
