‘Groom’ turns out tobea woman

- BY AKHEL MATHEW Correspondent

An unsuspecting woman techie, working in a private company at the Technopark in Kerala’s capital, discovered to her horror that the ‘man’ she had got married to earlier in the day, was in fact a woman.

The wedding took place two months ago, but the case came to light when details surfaced on social media.

Even more surprisingly, the ‘groom’ and the bride had been courting for seven years before tying the knot. The trickster, who hails from Kollam, had given ‘his’ name to the girl as Sriram.

The impersonator arrived alone on the wedding day, telling the bride’s family that the rest of the family had got caught in a traffic jam and that ‘he’ had rushed to be on time to complete the wedding rituals at the auspicious time.

Suspicions aroused

After the wedding ceremony when the ‘groom’ took the bride to a single-room rented house where there were no family members to welcome them, the girl’s parents turned suspicious and had her gold ornaments removed.

Shortly thereafter, the girl received a phone call informing her that her ‘husband’ was a woman. She also got suspicious when her ‘husband’ told her of an immediate need of her gold ornaments to clear some debts. When the girl’s parents tipped off the police, an examination revealed the trickster had been conning the girl all these years.

It was found that ‘Sriram’ was in fact a girl called Rani from Kollam.
