Egyptian man admits to killing wife, kids
He claimed to have been watching the World Cup match at the time of murders
An Egyptian man, whose wife and two daughters were killed in their apartment in Cairo during the World Cup match between Egypt and Russia, confessed to murdering his family.
Salah Abu Al Abbas became a suspect after police picked up conflicting statements during their investigation, the Egyptian news daily Youm7 reported.
Abu Al Abbas said he lost all his money in the stock market and he feared his family would become impoverished.
During the investigation, police found scars and wounds on the suspect’s hand, although Abu Al Abbas claimed the scars were from playing with his daughter a few days before the crime.
To verify his statement, police ordered a forensics report to confirm the timing of the wounds.
In later confessions, Abu Al Abbas changed his story completely.
He said that medication he had been taking for the past six years had rendered him infertile.
This resulted in Abu Al Abbas doubting his wife’s loyalty and it caused several problems between them.
The mother, 38, was choked to death with her headscarf.
The 14-year-old daughter was strangled using a telephone cord while her 12-year-old sister was killed by suffocating her with a pillow case. Abu Al Abbas will remain in police custody until his trial.
