‘It is time to get down to work’

Following the landmark verdict by the Supreme Court, residents in Delhi expressed their views.

“Since service matters are now with Delhi government, there is no need for the latter to send files to the Lieutenant Governor anymore. Earlier, the process of referring all files to Lieutenant Governor caused huge delay and unnecessary interference. Things should hopefully improve now.” Daljeet Singh | 56, banker “The Supreme Court ruling gives Delhi government almost a free hand. The government is no more required to report every decision to Lieutenant Governor. Arvind Kejriwal should now execute all those schemes that he hitherto claimed were hindered by ‘whimsical decisions’ of Lieutenant Governor.” Hira Nand | 60, social activist “The services issue always caused a huge conflict between Delhi government and Lieutenant Governor. But now it is all clear. Lieutenant Governor cannot transfer bureaucrats and place them wherever he wants. Also the bureaucrats will now be answerable to Delhi government. It will help government execute decisions swiftly.” Mayank Bhat | 36, marketing professional “Arvind Kejriwal has been involved in a tussle with the Lieutenant Governor. His government had gone to Supreme Court after Delhi High Court ruled that the Lieutenant Governor was the last word in administrative issues. It is a big boost for Delhi government and now they must work.” Mrigank Jain | 42, software engineer “The face off between Lieutenant Governor and Delhi government had turned into a long drawn battle. The CM and Lieutenant Governor had several showdowns. Now with more powers, Delhi government has no excuse not to work. They must show results now.” Rameez Pandit | 30, sports equipment dealer
