If you’re heading out this weekend for outdoor adventures, be sure to plan for scorching heat and high humidity reaching upwards of 90 per cent, say weather forecasters.

According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the maximum temperatures yesterday ranged from 40 degrees Celsius to 44C in coastal areas, 42C to 47C in internal areas and 33C to 38C in the mountain region.

Heat and humidity would dominate the day and likely persist through the remainder of the week as is seasonally normal for the first few weeks of the summer season in the UAE. Forecasters said the day will be “humid westward during morning, mist may form. Hot to very hot daytime.”

Forecasters said heat will continue today and clouds in the eastern parts of the country may bring a chance of “rainfall by afternoon eastward, extending over some internal and southern areas”.

High temperatures will continue to be the norm tomorrow, said the weather centre, with more chances of scattered rain in east and south corners of the country.

The weather centre said tomorrow will be “hot to very hot [in the] daytime”.

Average temperatures

Previous data recorded by the NCM in Dubai from 1977 to 2016 revealed the maximum temperature for June was 47.9C, 48.5C in July, 48.8C in August and 45.1C in September.

Studies also showed that the hottest temperature recorded in the UAE was on June 2, 2015 in Sweihan at a scorching 51.2C.

Tomorrow, forecasters said, it will be “hot in general, hazy at times. The cloudiness will increase eastward, with a chance of convective cloud formation by afternoon.”

On Sunday, it will be “hot in general, hazy at times, with a drop in temperatures. The relative humidity will increase during night and early morning over coastal and internal areas, with a probability of mist formation”.
