Car crash kills four family members
Six other members of the family were injured when their vehicle flipped over in Asir
Four members of a family were killed when their vehicle flipped over in Asir region in south-western Saudi Arabia, according to media reports.
The crash took place on Thursday in the town of Bareq in the Asir governorate, initially causing three deaths and seven others injured, the Saudi news site Sabq reported.
Later, a four-month-old baby died of injuries in a local hospital.
Spokesman for the Saudi Red Crescent in Asir, Mohammad Al Shehri said the operations room received a report about the accident on a road leading to the western city of Jeddah.
Three paramedic and rescue teams were sent to the scene of the accident where they found three people dead and seven others injured, Al Shehri said.
The injured were transported to a hospital in Bareq, Al Shehri said.
All 10 victims belonged to the same family, according to Sabq.
Road accidents killed 10,961 people in Saudi Arabia in 2017, according to official figures — making it one of the highest rates in the world.
The deadly road accidents were mainly blamed on reckless driving.
Traffic accidents in the kingdom have dropped by 33 per cent over the past two years, a recent report by the governmental Traffic Safety Committee said.
The drop in traffic accidents is attributed to stricter enforcement of road regulations and expanded use of advanced technology.
