Collision on the outskirts of Salalah also left two injured who are being treated in hospital

Four Emiratis, including two children, were killed when two vehicles collided on the outskirts of Salalah, the Royal Oman Police announced yesterday.

Two other Emiratis were seriously injured and they are being treated at a hospital in Oman.

The accident occurred in Al Zmaim area, according to a statement by the Oman police. The victims were passengers of a UAE-registered vehicle, while the other vehicle was registered in Oman. They were Abdul Rahman Al Beloushi, wife Fatima Esmail Al Beloushi and their children Mohammad and Butti.

Their bodies were brought to Al Ain and the funeral prayers held at Al Mutawa’a Mosque on Friday.

Many destinations in Oman are preferred vacation spots for Emiratis.

Families like to cooler areas like holiday in Salalah — known for its moderate temperatures and green landscapes — to get away from the summer heat. Unfortunately, road accidents at these vacation spots have resulted in the deaths of many Emiratis.

According to statistics released by the police last year, at least 38 Emiratis died in road accidents in Oman over a fiveyear period [since 2013].

Last year, an Emirati man was killed and another injured when their car flipped over in central Oman. The two men had been heading to Salalah from the UAE in a four-wheel drive, but the driver lost control due to speeding.

In August 2016, two Emiratis were killed and six others injured in a road accident in the Haima province in central Oman.

The Emirati family had been on their way back to the UAE when the driver lost control of the car due to fatigue.

In the previous month, two Emiratis were killed and another sustained severe injuries in a road accident in the Gabah area of Adam province. Another Emirati was killed in June after his vehicle overturned in Ibri province while heading to Salalah.

And in April, four Emirati women were killed in Oman’s Adam province when their vehicle collided with a truck.

Twelve Emiratis were killed in separate road accidents in Oman in 2015 and 10 in 2014, according to Royal Oman Police.

In 2013, six Emiratis were killed in a road accident in Salalah. Another seven were killed in an accident in 2012.
