With the majority vote in the National Assembly and required numbers in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is all set to form the new government in Pakistan and its leader Imran Khan will finalise names for his cabinet in a day or two.

However, despite all these good signs and supporting environment, PTI has to walk a tightrope and be mindful of promises it has made with the people in its manifesto.

Khan, in his Lahore public address of April 29, 2018 had promised the nation a brighter better Pakistan.

The road map of goals includes education, health, revenue generation, zero tolerance against corruption, investment, employment, agriculture, strong federation, measures to counter global warming, police reforms and women’s empowerment.

Moreover, his promise of 10 million jobs and five million homes in first 100 days is also another challenge that the new government will have to face.

With formidable opposition from PML-N, PPP and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and their allied parties, PTI will have to deliver on its promises and try its level best to provide relief to the masses.

Putting promises first

PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry also admits that people’s expectations from PTI’s would-be government are great and overwhelming. “Our real opposition will come from public focus on our performance and masses’ expectations from us,” said Chaudhry.

People want change and they want it quickly, he said, adding that the real test of the new government will be how it delivers within minimum possible time, he added.
