Ten newborns — five girls and five boys — were born at Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women & Children in Abu Dhabi during Arafat Day and the early hours of the first day of Eid Al Adha.

The first baby Zayed, an Emirati, was born at 12.08am on the first day of Eid Al Adha and weighed 2.7kg.

Mohammad Salem Al Mansouri, the baby’s father, said that the child’s arrival made the Eid celebrations even more special. “The birth of our child on the first day of Eid was a surprise and now the memorable occasion is doubled for us. He is our first baby and we have named him Zayed.

“We are very thankful for this blessing. We would also like to congratulate the UAE leaders, government and the people on this very special day.”

The baby was delivered by Dr Merlyne Acedilla, obstetrics & gynaecology specialist at the hospital, who said the baby was due only two weeks later. “The baby was due in two weeks but at Allah’s will, he joined the family on this special occasion for everyone and doubled his parents’ joy and also ours. Both baby and mother are in good health,” said Dr Acedilla.

The second baby, a girl, was born at 1.11am to a Russian-American family and weighed 3.6kg. She is the second child of the family.

The third baby, also a girl, was born at 2.18am to a Pakistani family. Her father, Abrar Sarwar said: “She is our first baby and weighed 3.150kg. She was due in five days but with Allah’s will she was born today, on first day of Eid. We are truly blessed. Both the baby and the mother are in good health. Our celebration is now double.”

The fourth baby, a firstborn for a Yemeni family, came along at 6.45am. She weighed 2.8kg.

Mariano Gonzalez, chief executive officer of the hospital, said: “Including our 10 babies born at the hospital on Arafat Day and the early hours othe first day of Eid, a total of 8,805 babies have been born at our hospital since we opened in October 2015. All these precious bundles of joy were managed by our 70 medical team members of obstetricians, paediatricians and neonatologists. We expect to welcome another five babies by the end of the first day of Eid,” Gonzalez added.
