Big screen movies for workers in Dubai
Accommodations in Jebel Ali, Al Quoz and Muhaisnah to show Bollywood movies on weekends
Workers in Dubai can get ready to enjoy Bollywood entertainment on big screens at their accommodations.
The Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai (PCLA) has confirmed it is installing huge screens at workers’ accommodations to show Bollywood movies and other programmes on weekends, said a senior official.
Major-General Obaid Muhair Bin Surour, PCLA chairman and deputy director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA), said that the screens will be installed at workers’ accommodations in Jebel Ali, Al Quoz and Muhaisnah.
“The screens will be used to show awareness clips and messages for workers about their rights and responsibilities. They will also be used to show Bollywood movies. It is for workers’ entertainment, so they can watch movies, especially on weekends,” MajGen Bin Surour said.
Meanwhile, after the success of kiosks set up at Dulsco village in Al Quoz industrial area and Muhaisnah to educate workers about their rights and answer their questions about different legal matters related to the labour market, a third such kiosk will be installed in Jebel Ali area.
“The kiosk answers different questions asked by the workers and takes note of them. The services are available in languages like Arabic, English and Urdu,” Maj-Gen Bin Surour said.
As part of the PCLA’s initiative to enhance the workers’ living standards, the committee inspected 1,269 workers’ accommodations this year, housing 638,000 workers, to ensure that the best facilities are available for them.
“Our inspectors visited the workers’ accommodations to to check if their companies provided the best facilities and to check any violation of the rules and regulations. The workers are an important part of our society and we must provide them the best facilities,” he said.
