Perfect beauty is what looks authentic and natural

-

There definitely has been an increase in the amount of plastic surgery requests based on how people look, either on social media or in their personal selfies. I naturally don’t agree with it and to some extent I am against it. The reason I am for plastic surgery is because it comes down to self-image – a person wants to look good and feel good to perform better. This has been the case for a very long time. But getting obsessed with selfies is a psychological issue. It creates an issue of self-obsession, where people fall into what is called ‘body dysmorphia’, where they may not have a significant issue that others can see but they have a magnified image of it.

Some people now come to me and point towards their selfies to highlight the issues that they have, or they bring out someone else’s selfie, who they want to impersonate, not realising that the selfie is not necessarily their true self. It is a distorted image.

There are also people who document their operative procedures and post it on their social media accounts, which is different from what it used to be in the past. This is a positive for our industry because people are openly talking about it. However, I certainly feel the obsession has gone too far, where people are trying to look beyond perfect. They are not my best clients. The best clients are those who feel good about themselves. I would definitely refuse a person who already looks good and still wants to change into an exaggerated version of himself or herself. Perfection is when beauty is authentic and natural.
